Use: antibiotic
Cefaclor is a broad spectrum cephalosporin. It has a broad range of activity against many bacteria and may be used to treat bacterial chest infections, UTIs, and skin/ear/throat infections.
Cefaclor is safe to use in pregnancy.
Cautions:
- allergy to cephalosporins and penicillins
- inflammatory bowel disease (may cause colitis)
- kidney impairment
Side effects:
Occasional: diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, vaginal thrush.
Rarely: skin rash (discontinue treatment), antibiotic-associated colitis, blood disorders.
Dose:
Typical dose is 250mg every 8 hours.
