Genetic Breast/Ovarian Cancer Risk Assessment Tool

OPERA - Online Personal Education and Risk Assessment for genetic breast/ovarian cancer

OPERA …. offering personalised support and information for people who are concerned about inherited risk of breast cancer

  • If you are worried about the occurrence of breast and/or ovarian cancer in your family and whether there might be an inherited genetic link, OPERA is an online interactive software program that will offer you personalised information and support in the comfort of your own home.
  • OPERA is based on NICE Guidance for the classification and care of women at risk of familial breast cancer (produced for England and Wales; however clinical practice in Scotland and Northern Ireland is similar), and is designed for both male and female users.
  • Please note that the NICE Guidance on which this program is based, does not take into account other cancers (e.g. prostate cancer) which sometimes might be relevant to hereditary breast/ovarian cancer. If you are worried about the relevance of other cancers occurring in your family, OPERA may not be appropriate for you. You may wish to discuss your situation with your doctor.
  • If your main concern about breast or ovarian cancer is not inherited genetic risk, you may find one or both of the following links helpful:

Are you worried about breast cancer?

Are you worried about ovarian cancer?

  • Please note that we do not intend this program to take the place of professional genetic counselling services. If you are concerned about genetic risk, you should consult your doctor.
