The next 10 years: I believe the problem of rejection will be solved and we will figure out how to induce organ specific tolerance. This will avoid the requirement of life-long immunosuppression in transplant recipients.
The next 50 years: We will learn to create bioengineered organs using cell and tissue engineering and cloning techniques. The need for living or cadaveric organs will no longer exist.
Gene Therapy: We will learn to introduce genes using viral vectors. This would potentially cure diabetes, hemophilia, cystic fibrosis and many other diseases.
